The Weight of Things to Come

Lieutenant Commander Halan Zeti’s final log as interm Captain. Interim Captain… That’s an interesting title, and it seems those above me were rather impressed with my handling of the current situation and what I did to get us back to Memphis Island. The crew has been given a seventy two hour leave pass while Admiral Grayson puts the Gladiators new Commanding and Executive officers in place to get this ship back out there. With the IG inquiry still going on he doesn’t have the liberty of keeping this beauty of a ship on the side lines.

After we rendered aid to the Romulan cargo ship, we finished escorting them to their destination and assisted in off loading all cargo. During that time we were given the ability to question the crew, analyze the body and the crime scene to gather as much evidence as we could. None of it looked good for Captain Hawkins, but there’s something about it that’s just not right and I’m not going to let it go until I find our what. Once the operations was complete they set a course for Romulan space, while I took the Gladiator home without incident.

Hawkins escaped, from what I’ve been told the dogs will be let off their leashes to hunt him down and bring him in. This is a massive diplomatic incident for the Federation and for Starfleet and short of bringing in the party that’s responsible, I don’t know how Hawkins can survive this. For the record I don’t see how he could be guilty, he had the means and the opportunity to commit the act, but why? He didn’t know the romulan captain, nor held any ill will towards him. There is no motive. I also don’t believe Captain Hawkins would be so stupid as to kill a man in his own ready room on his own ship with nothing but his XO and a hologram has back up. This isn’t even a good set up! I wish there was more I could do for him, but for now I’ve been moved off of the Gladiator’s roster.

For now I’ll likely pick up shifts on the island until Admiral Grayson can find a better spot for me. From the last conversation I had with the good Admiral it seems he has a plan. I guess I’ll have to hope he knows what he’s doing and that Gladiator is going to be in good hands. I’ll miss this ship, but I don’t think this is goodbye forever.

Computer end log.
