Guess Who's Back

Posted on Sun Jan 31st, 2016 @ 8:44pm by Commander Mercia Kavi

Mission: Mother Base
Location: XO's Office

Ash looked around the shuttle bay as she exited her craft. It was good to be back. She'd always liked the Gladiator, even if she had felt a bit like a fish out of water. It was a great ship that was a pleasure to fly.

And now she was back.

Temporarily.

She handed the PaDD containing her orders to the officer on duty in the shuttle bay and he looked them over, then handed them back. "Welcome back, Lieutenant," he said.

"Thank you," said Ash. She exited the bay and went immediately to the XO's office after asking the computer the location of Commander Kavi. She knew that nobody yet knew she had been temporarily assigned here and couldn't wait to surprise everyone. She pressed her thumb to the chime and readjusted her duffel bag on her shoulder.

Mercia sighed and glanced up at the door, "Come in."

Ash walked through the door and grinned at Kavi. "Good afternoon, Commander," she said, eyes twinkling.

Mercia tipped her head, the face of the woman in front of her was really familiar, she knew her face. She blinked, "Coi!" she said. "What are you doing here?" she asked.

"They sent me to take over from Prince while she's on maternity leave," Ash answered, handing over the PaDD with her orders on it. "They're lucky they caught me when they did. I had almost decided to get pregnant myself."

Mercia arched her brows, "Oh really? Didn't you get together with someone from this ship?" she asked trying to remember details. "Sorry it's been a while, and a lot has happened," she said.

"Liam Callaghan," Ash replied. "His mother wants us to actually get married, and I suppose I can see the point. It would be worth it for Starfleet to take our relationship into account before moving us around. I'd like to not be away from him."

She laughed, "I hear that's what it's like when you have a boyfriend. I have the worst luck with long term relationships." she said. Mercia made a face, picturing Noah in her mind, and feeling irritation come up. She took a deep breath, "Alright, so you'll have temporary quarters, and we're heading out to help the USS Kelstar with an emergency situation." she said. "I'll send you the file from the briefing," she said.

"He's a bit more than a boyfriend," said Ash with a grin. "That Telino Connection doesn't really break very easily." The capital C was evident in her speech. "Anything you can tell me about the emergency or would it take too long to tell me? I can just read it if that's the case."

Mercia shrugged, "The Kelstar's CO was killed, they're way out of range of their assigned mission, and surprise surprise, the XO Commander Neville Jarland can't keep control of the crew and has a mutiny on his hands. That's all we know so far." she said.

Ash's mouth fell open. "Are you kidding me?" she said. "How in the universe did that jackass get another job? I am quickly losing faith in Starfleet." She shivered, remembering the moment when she had realized that Jarland had feelings for her. Disgusting.

Mercia shrugged, "Family connection is my guess." She tapped her screen shifting a profile to her larger wall screen. "He has family in active high ranks," she said "His father is an admiral for example," she said.

"Yeesh, of course," said Ash with an eye roll. "Daddy keeping his butt out of trouble. Whatever you do, don't leave me alone with him. I have no idea what I'll do."

Mercia laughed, "I don't plan on it. I won't be putting you in the same room as him, that's unwise and not safe for you." she said. "I'm not even a fan of being in the same room as him, and I'll have to be investigating and deeply involved," she said.

"I actually sort of envy you," Ash replied. "To be the one to investigate Jarland. You could remind him of the fact every three minutes- that his fate is almost entirely in your hands."

The woman smirked a bit, "I'll keep that in mind. He isn't likely to respond well to that and might clog him up, rather than get him to open up and talk to me." she laughed. "Either way... keep your head down and fly the boat straight and we'll be in good shape," she said. She leaned over her computer a moment, "Oh Yeah I needed to assign quarters to that other chick too..." thinking of Katrina. "Alright... your quarters are assigned... and the other assignment... also done. two birds one stone," she grinned.

"Thank you, ma'am," replied Ash. "Or sir. Which do you prefer again?"

"Just... commander or Kavi." Mercia chuckled, "I honestly hate both ma'am and sir." she chuckled.

"You got it Kavi," said Ash, giving her a little salute and a wink as she hefted her duffel bag back to her shoulder. "See you around."
