Off The Deep End (2)

Mission: R&R Coming Home

Shiloh got back to his quarters after a work out session. Towel hanging around his neck and sweat still beading off his body. One of the few things he did really love about being intel was, due to the nature of his work, he got his own quarters. He wasn't really allowed to hang around with people that often due to, for whatever reason, everyone being afraid the intelligence officer would spill some trade secret. Obviously, that was never an issue, but it was still a nice perk. As he stopped at his door, he stared at it for a minute. Something seemed off and different, even though it was the same nondescript door that was around the entire ship. Still, he knew something was off. He clenched a fist and opened the door, rushing in a little quickly.

Oddly enough, he was right. The lights were on, and someone was home. And it wasn't him. He turned and stared at the slightly emaciated man sitting in his desk chair, reading a data PADD. He recognized the man, since he had to try and track him down for a small period of time. He eased up on his posture and took his shirt off, walking over to his closet. "What can I do for you Mr. Shark?" he asked flatly.

"You know who I am?" Shark asked quietly.

Shiloh just nodded. "I was tasked with trying to find you while I was going through my intel training. Had to read up on you. Also, the Neural implants that they used on you were quite fascinating really."

Shark nodded slightly. "Good. Then you know a little of my story. Do you know the full picture?"

"No," Shiloh responded, putting a shirt back on. "Still a lot of stuff redacted throughout your report."

"What they probably didn't tell you was that I was also genetically modified in the womb. It took a long time for them to figure it out because whoever did it was really good at hiding genetic markers in the protein of the blood stream. It's what gives me a bit of an edge in some areas but makes me a royal ass in my personality," Shark commented.

With a nod, Shiloh remarked, "Yeah that is stuff they don't tell you."

"Well, it's not something they like to completely tell people since genetic modification is still illegal here in the Federation."

"So, with no disrespect Mr. Shark, what does this have to do with me?" Shiloh asked as he finally sat down in the chair opposite of Shark.

Shark smiled slightly. "I need your assistance Mr. Hacksen."

"Oh?" Shiloh said with some intrigue in his voice. "And how is that?"

"I just recently found I have a bit of a brother. Only in the sense that we were both altered by the same people. He was a little more altered than I was. Kind of one of their first mistakes if you will." Shark shifted in his chair a little. "I'm sure you can tell that I am in little shape. The truth is that the protein in my blood is breaking down. The good Doctor Shock can't figure out how to isolate the protein and get it to stop. My counter part thinks that its a fail safe system to try and keep us at bay. Bring us back home as it were."

"Back to where?" Shiloh asked curiously.

"Kar-Telos," Shark said almost matter of factly.

"The planet in the Gamma Quad with the massive asteroid field around it?"

Shark nodded. "One in the same. Good place for genetic testing when no one wants to go there," he mused. "According to my counter part, there is a base there that has synthesized protein I need. To live," he said with some hesitation to get the point across.

"And you want me to go get it," Shiloh said quickly.

Shark sighed a little and nodded. "I would like to enlist you to go get a sample of this and bring it back so Doc Shock can synthesize something for me so I can live."

"Why would I undertake such a task?"

"Because you love a challenge, I have all of the info that you need to get in and where to go." Shark paused for a bit of an effect before continuing. "And truthfully, I will pay you. Not to mention you have the next month you have on stand down with nothing to do."

Shiloh thought for a moment before standing up. He walked over to his closet and pulled a bottle with a blue liquid in it and two glasses. He brought it over to the desk and poured both the men a glass. "I'm listening."
