/// ON ///

Slightly pacing in the hall waiting for the Lieutenant to arrive, David thought deeply to himself as he felt his thoughts and feelings calm down as felt Mercia's presence just a couple steps away from him. As he spun around, he came to a halt and looked at her. He cleared his throat and awaited for her thoughts to come back to the here and now.

Mercia leaned against the wall, "Thinking of the next thing to ream me out for?" she asked with some sarcasm.

"I do apologize for earlier and how I snapped at you. It was highly unprofessional," he started off as he tried to humble himself to her and how it should be. "I don't know what we are going to do, but I hope our friendship hasn't been lost," David finished as he looked at her.

Mercia humphed. "I deserved worse. I was serious about hitting me... I deserve the firing squad." she said.

His thoughts were all over the place as he rode the turbolift. There were thoughts about the counselor, thoughts about his grandfather, thoughts about how he'd made an idiot of himself in their last outing. He even wondered if he had been summoned to be chastised for his conduct planetside. When the doors opened he saw both Captain Hawkins and Commander Kavi before him.

Turning their attention to the lieutenant, David and Mercia focused on the issue at hand. "Cutting it pretty close here, Lieutenant."

"Apologies sir..." He wanted to make a joke about growing an attachment that looked like the counselor but something about the air between Hawkins and Kavi stopped him...

"You say that now," David joked slightly as he motioned for them to walk. "Lieutenent, you have have been with us for a short time. Your skills have shown greatness and I was wondering what your plan was for the future on board the Gladiator. I know you want to command your own ship and what not, but what are those short term goals to allow for you to achieve the long term goals?"

Theo walked alongside Hawkins, looking ahead and to the ceiling to think. "Well if I plan on commanding a ship, I'd need to be a team lead of some kind. Experience is the great equalizer in starship ops sir.." He said with genuine honesty. "I really appreciate the compliment on my skills sir...my head still hurts a bit from our last planetside....excursion.."

"Yeah," David agreed eyeing Mercia before they continued down the hall and came forth a glass double door which was for the department head of the section. "There are a lot of healing required after that mission, but nothing we can't get over."

"The only thing that needs healing right now is my ego sir.." He said with a hint of embarrassment. "I feel that I was more of a hindrance or embarrassment than a help. Certainly not befitting my station aboard ship.." He then saw the double doors. "Uhhhh sir?" He looked to Hawkins with curiosity...

"Lieutenant?" David blinked at the the young officer as he tried to see what he was confused about. He hadn't spent a lot of time with the officer but Hawkins knew that he needed to. He seemed more than capable and this was what they needed, but it had to be his choice and his choice only.

"Why are we at the department head office?" He let out a nervous chuckle as he knew the captain had a habit of surprising him but still, there's no way he could've earned any kind of recognition. Not after his embarrassing moment planetside...

"It needs decorating," the captain simply stated. "You seem more than capable."

"Operations...department head??!" he exclaimed as he looked to both Hawkins and Kavi. "Why?? I mean I will not fail but still...I've only been deputy tactical chief for a brief time sir!"

"You fill in the spot. You'll need to refresh your engineering courses with Zeti, but you're driven, and organized, even if you are a little bit of a klutz, so I hear." Mercia said.

"So you hear..really Commander?" He then looked to both officers and at his new office and smiled. "Thank you..I shan't let you down, either of you.."

David rolled his eyes as he pointed to the room. "YOU are already by just standing there. Now GO!" He raised his voice as he pointed to the double doors. Once they finally walked in, the room was bare and lacking characteristic and personality. A decent size room as it was a department head's office on an excalibur class starship. It was almost set up similar to the Intrepid class's Captain's ready room with a couch before the view ports outlooking the darkness of space while having a small desk with two chair on the outside. A built in raising touchscreen came from below the desk for his use and a single small oak box sat on the desk. "You are also out of uniform. Which is really irritating."

"He's really picky about that part." Mercia laughed.

Hearing Capt. Hawkins raise his voice caused him to take off like a shot. "I'll fix all the problems here sir!"

This only made David pinch the bridge of his nose as he closed his eyes and shook his head. "The box..."

"Sir?" He said as he looked at the box and then picked it up, looking to Capt. Hawkins wide eyed.

"Open the box, Lieutenant Junior Grade," the captain ordered as he opened his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest.

When he opened the box, his eyes came to rest upon the new pip to signify his promotion. Theo's mind and heart were running a million miles an hour in a million different directions. He didn't know if he was going to faint or spaz out like a Looney Tune. It was a bit of both that happened. He fist bumped a couple times, then the office was filled with a thud as he fell backwards onto the floor passing out briefly...

David stood there blinking completely unsure what he had seen but looked at Kavi and shrugged. "I guess he is happy?"

Mercia laughed as she pulled out a tricorder. "no injuries... He'll wake up in a few moments." she said. She folded up the tricorder and placed it on the desk. "I need a coffee." she said motioning to the door, "Want to join me?"

"Agreed, we leave him as is. He can figure it all out from here," the captain smirked faintly as the two headed out of the office.
