THE Doctor

Posted on Thu Feb 13th, 2014 @ 9:08pm by Lieutenant JG Liam Callaghan

Mission: Photons Everywhere
Location: Holodeck
Timeline: The morning after the launch party

After looking up the location of Lieutenant Callaghan's quarters and dressing in gray pants, knee-high black boots and a form-fitting red sweater, Ash headed out of her own quarters and headed exactly three doors down from her own and pressed her thumb to the chime.

Liam had just finished his morning shower, having wrapped up in a towel he couldn't help but wonder who was at his door. He looked down at his attire and figured what the hell. "Enter," he called out.

"Congratulations, you finally got me into your quarters," she said as she stepped inside. "Busy? I mean aside from showering, obviously," she added, noting the towel.

Liam looked down then back at Ash, “Do I need to get dressed first,” he asked with a hint of sarcasm.

She looked him over critically. "Hm," she said, thoughtfully. "Maybe not."

He walked over to her standing very close, so close that he could feel the heat coming off of her body. He'd never had a woman move this fast, but oddly enough he didn't care. "Well then," he leaned forward, his lips almost touching hers. "Lets see what you have in mind," he pulled back at the last minute turning to head to his quarters.

He had no intention of doing anything, in fact quite the opposite, he was freezing. He walked to put more than a towel on. But for the moment he didn't mind playing with her for a bit.

Ash had to stifle a laugh and very nearly missed the mark. She actually followed after him for a few steps before changing direction and flopping onto his sofa. "Put on something you'd wear to meet a friend of a friend," she called after him, glancing around for something to read, but seeing nothing in evidence. "In fact, pretend it's my very best friend in the whole universe!" She finally spotted a book and snatched it, not really caring much what it was.

Liam grabbed a simple outfit, nothing to fancy. He called out to the other room, "And just who is this friend we are going to meet?" He looked into the other room as she picked up his book. Slipping on his shirt, he quoted a line, "I have sometimes sat alone here of an evening, listening, until I have made the echoes out to be the echoes of all the footsteps that are coming by and by into our lives."

He took a breath then continued, "There is a great crowd coming one day into our lives, if that be so," he blushed, "sorry I like to read. "It is a book by an author named Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities."

"I've read some Dickens," she said. "Most of it's pretty heavy, if you read it right."

He smiled, "I know it is not what you would call light reading. But my mother instilled in us a love for the art of reading, and not from a PaDD but holding the book in your hands." He light, carefully took the book from her hand. "She said that holding the book allows you to feel like you are a part of the story," he added.

She nodded, grinning. "I know what you mean," she said. "Hence my Jules Verne the other night. And no, we're not going to meet HIM." She pulled a small device from her back pocket. "I've got the brand new Doctor Who holonovel right here. Wanna go?"

"Doctor What?" he asked, completely confused.

She blinked. "You've never heard... wait, you're pulling my leg, aren't you?" she said.

"No, but if you want I will," he joked.

"Maybe later," she said dismissively. "Doctor Who is only the BEST holonovel ever created. The Doctor is an alien- a Time Lord- from Gallifrey. He doesn't die, he just regenerates. There's 67 different versions of the Doctor available- I like 4, sometimes 9 or 23- and you choose your villain. OR- and here's the best part- let the computer choose a villain FOR you. That's the most fun."

"Wait, wait," he waved his hand, "This guy is from the planet Gallifrey, where is this planet I don't think I have heard of that one? And he doesn't die...." Liam was seriously confused.

"Sorry," she said with a grin. "It's easier to just show you, come on!" she added, standing and taking his hand, attempting to tug him off the sofa.

Liam gently, so he didn't hurt her, tugged back on her hands sending her flying into his lap. Wrapping his hand around the small of her back he asked, "And what is so special about these villains? Let me guess, he fights off an army of cyborgs?"

"Well, there CAN be cyborgs," she said. "But, I don't like the Cybermen. And why the devil am I in your lap all of a sudden? Come on! You have GOT to meet The Doctor!" Again, she stood and attempted to pull him off the sofa.

Liam was only kidding about this cyborgs and now he finds out they exist. He sighed standing up, sort of letting her pull him up. He had to make her feel like she was winning after all, "Just be sure that XO Jerkland doesn't find out about this unauthorized used of the holodeck system during scheduled shift hours," he totally made up that line but it sounded like something the man would say.

"I'm not on duty right now," she said. "It's my day off. You?"

Liam stopped for a moment, truthfully what was a Diplomat supposed to do. He could attempt to convince the man he was studying the Telino culture. “I am fine, lead the way my lady.”

She led him out of his quarters, still holding his hand on the pretense of pulling him along, and towards the holodecks. "You're going to love it, I promise," she said.

“So what is your plan with this adventure, do you play the Doctor then?”

"Of course not!" she replied. "You play his traveling companions. You can pick whichever incarnation of him you like best or have the computer generate one at random. Usually, you just sorta drop in and run across him. It's brilliant fun!"

He took a deep breath, “If you say so.”

"Oh, just wait," she said as they arrived at the holodeck. She programed the computer to pull up the information from her personal files and had the computer randomly generate location and villain and chose the fourth doctor. "Ready?" she asked.

Liam stepped into the holodecks, still holding Ash’s hand he stopped suddenly looking around. “You are kidding right, Ireland?” He looked around, “Was this planned?” He smiled, he would know this location anywhere his family used to vacation in this very town as a child.

Ash laughed. "Absolutely not," she said. "I told it to pick one at random. I love it! It looks so much like Darath!" she squealed, dragging him towards an interesting looking little shop.

Just as they were about to step into it, though, a man ran out, slammed the door behind him and stood blocking it. Something inside exploded and the man winced, then reached into one pocket of his brown jacket and pulled out a small bag. He tossed one end of his ridiculously long scarf over his shoulder and opened the bag. "Would you like a Jelly Baby?" he asked, offering them the opened bag.

Ash blinked, then grinned. "Sure," she said, taking one out of the bag. "Mmm, lemon!" She popped it into her mouth. "Nope, nope. Not lemon. Pineapple! You're clever, you are."

The man grinned. "I keep saying so," he said, and offered the bag to Liam.

“Thank you,” he stated attempting to figure out what was going on in this story. He blurted out, “So is this the Doctor?” he asked Ash. “Which reincarnation is this?”

"Yes!" interrupted the man. "I am the Doctor! You've heard of me?" he asked brightly.

"Of course we have," she replied to him. "Who hasn't heard of The Doctor? I'm Ash, by the way, and this is Liam."

"Ash!" he exclaimed, shaking her hand vigorously. "And Liam," he added, shaking his hand. "Good to meet you. Now," he said, glancing behind him where the shop keeper was just stirring and starting to yell. "Run!" he shouted and dashed off.

Liam honestly had no clue what on Earth was going on, this man was about a hundred percent over the top. But he wasn’t going to lie he was starting to enjoy himself.

Ash laughed as they ran along behind the Doctor, already thoroughly enjoying herself. "What happened?" she asked as they ran.

"Zygons!" the Doctor answered. "Or at least, I thought they were. Turns out I was wrong. Oh, well! Better safe than sorry!"

Liam asked, “what the hell is a Zygon?” He gave a look to Ash really wondering if she hadn’t made most of this up.

"Shapeshifters," she replied. "They're hard to describe."

They rounded a corner and stopped dead in their tracks. Before them stood a large, bipedal creature, reddish brown in color and covered in little suckers. "Ahha!" cried the Doctor. "So I WAS right!"

"That," said Ash, "is a Zygon."
