Am I truly ready?

Posted on Thu Jul 9th, 2015 @ 5:40pm by David Hawkins

Mission: Discovery
Location: Counselor's Office
Timeline: Back Post

A large breath rushed out of his lungs as he tried to figure out what was going on. He wasn't sure how to handle all the things that had been going on. He rolled his head allowing his neck bones to pop. There was so much going on but was he fully the right person to do it all? Looking before him was the doors to Lizzy's office, to which he had been in front of for what seemed like a day, but was only a couple minutes. This was who he needed to clear it

Looking up as the door chimed from where she was playing with Fang, Lizzy called out "Enter."

The door slid open and David looked around for a moment before walking in to her office. Surprisingly she was dressed in her uniform which was quite a change but he wasn't going to complain. He had other things on his mind.

"Oh, hello, Captain. How can I help you? You seem.. frazzled. What's wrong?"

She spoke to the cub, "Fang, sleep mode."

The cub bounded over to his basket and plugged into the wall socket for charging, before closing his eyes and purring softly.

"A robotic cub?" he asked as he looked at the counselor with a questionable look. This was very unusual to see to say the least.

"Yes, it is harder for homicidal maniacs to execute my pet that way. The computer takes hourly snapshots of his program, and I can just seduce an engineer to borrow some time on one of the industrial replicators if I need to get him remade."

Gulping, she added, "I shouldn't have said that. Just ignore that bit."

"I see," he replied as he took a seat across from her. "Are you busy?"

"Nope. I'm free for another hour at least."

"I need to see a shrink..."

"Sure. Take a seat - don't worry, Mercia hasn't setup any electrocution ones for awhile. Can I get you a drink?"

"Sure, whatever you are having I guess," David replied as he tried to relax but unsure where to start.

Returning from the replicator with a tray, Lizzy put it down on the table, taking a juice she had got for herself.

"Where do you want to start?"

And that is the same reason why I don't like counselors he thought to himself as he looked her over. "I'm not completely sure to be honest."

Lizzy nodded, getting off some vibes from her with her empathy, "Okay. Let's try something else. How do you feel?"

"Well, I am stressed, on edge, constantly watching my back with the position I'm in... it's kind of nerve racking," he explained in a Mello toned voice.

"I'm glad you came to see me then. Nobody wants that, but some of it happens when you go up in rank as politics happens. What we can do is work on ways to help you with dealing with the stress and ways to help with being able to calm yourself wherever you are."

Lizzy smiled, "Firstly, there are a number of activities that can be taught which will help alleviate stress. Have you ever tried any of these or have feelings about them? yoga, meditation, acupuncture, Vulcan neuro-pressure, massage therapy. Oh, and there is also sex. How is your love life going?"

"What due any of those have to do with what I'm talking about?" David asked as he smirked slightly as he looked at her. He knew what she was leading to, but this was slightly interesting seeing her work.

"For the calming techniques , I know someone who is far more effective at teach a technique then I can. T'Madh could teach you a Vulcan technique to help you calm your thoughts. I can try, but it really does need telepathy to teach it and I never have been good at that. Do you want me to arrange some sessions? She will not mind."

"Oh I believe that, Counselor, but don't you want to figure out what the route of the issues are before suggesting those things to me?" David asked as he countered her with the same type of mentality.

Lizzy put her hands on her hips,"You are not the first commanding officer that I have counseled, Sir. Although I have never been in command or shown interest, I have studied up on the difficulties. Plus, I'm starting to learn how hard it can be by taking my Bridge Certification. But we can talk about it if you want? Although, there are somethings I should check.. Have you been taking strong hallucinogenic or paranoia-inducing drugs? Been seeing anything that others say aren't there? Been having really bad blinding headaches, twitching, seizures, loss of memory or irrational desires to strangle people?"

David paused for a moment as he thought about that long before shrugging. "Only yes to the last one... Don't worry I haven't acted on it."

"Okay, so long as I don't have to worry about you going postal with a shotgun or slashing up ch'Koro like Freddy Krueger."

Lizzy picked up her drink and took a sip of it.

"Its this..." he pointed to his uniform that was now gold outlined in some areas and even his Commodore rank on his pip. "Honestly... They marked myself and this ship as the failure of the fleet, yet we are the lead starship in our Task Force, only second to the General's Base... I hold Commodore now with being senior Task Group Commander... Should I continue?"

When David pointed out the pip and rank, Lizzy spluttered, spraying juice from her mouth in shock. Wiping her mouth and table, she added, "Oh, crap. Sorry.. I didn't see that. Wow, congratulations. I've served under your leadership for a fair while, and they can go sit on a large garden gnome if they think you aren't a good leader. You do not have anything to worry about."

"Blunt, straight and to the point... That's why I hired you," David shrugged as he smiled. "And don't you worry. I have no doubt. Just wanted to make sure I'm not going crazy... to the point of needing replaced."

Lizzy grinned, "Thank you, although it may have also been the blowjob to the guy at Starfleet Personnel."

"Seriously, you are one of the sanest people I know and would follow you anywhere. As long as you go first as squishy cannon fodder."

She added, "Only joking.. That's for the Security staff."

"I"ll try to keep that in mind," he smirked as he sighed before trying to figure out the next course of action. "So what would you do in my place?"

Lizzy thought for a moment, "Well, if I was in your position.. I probably would be jibbering like a squirrel in a padded room with a nice little white jacket that has the arms tied together. I'm trying to study for bridge office certification and finding it terribly difficult. But what I can suggest is that finding alternative means of dealing with stress is probably the best way.. Either that or find a male admiral and give him a feel so you get demoted."

"Sounds like an idea," David grinned as he took it all in one again as he felt himself getting tired again. He needed to go and talk to the doctor to see if she had any suggestion.

Lizzy smiled, "In addition, would it be okay if I talk to Mercia about a theraputic technique to help you? I think that more bonking might help calm you down."

"Bonking? What the crap is wrong with you?" He replied cocking his head before rolling his eyes and dropped his head. "Yeah, yeah yeah... whatever... Counselor."

"I'm part-Betazoid, and I honestly find human morality about that sort of thing to be quaint and amusing.. Anyway, endorphins help with calming. I'll let you talk to Mercia about it then. Going onto something else, how have your sleep patterns been? I expect irregular but do you have trouble actually going to sleep when you try? There may be natural things that can help, like turkey, warm milk with nutmeg, baby animal therapy like kittens."

"Ok... Talk to Mercia. But leave the kittens out of it," David replied as he stood up and looked at one of the clocks before sighing. "I have another meeting to attend to. Thanks for the chat... and having your cloths on this time."

Lizzy giggled, "Have a good day, Commodore. It is so tempting to think about leaving holo kitties in Mercia's office, but she would kill me at the moment and its kinda mean. Still not sure why humans don't like nudity, but glad I could help."
