Mission: The Overlords
Timeline: MD 3

IC:

Sadie was sitting up on top of the shuttle, it was late in the afternoon and she was watching the perimeter while every one worked on repair. Sid had gone to town to sell some moonshine, she was eager to see him again. He was fun. She frowned when she heard a whine overhead. "Hey guys...?" she called.

She almost ducked as fighters zoomed over head, "What the hell?" They were headed for the town, "It's got to be the Overlords!" she said as every one poured out of the shuttle or in to view.

Vanora ran out of the shuttle in time to see the fighters circling back for another pass over the village. She ran back into the shuttle without a word.

Lizzy had been inside the shuttle, helping out with whatever needed to be done, and yelped as she heard the sound of fighters & explosions. She shivered and looked around, not sure what to do.

Khelev felt the entire shuttle shudder and moved from the makeshift work room he'd set up and moved quickly through the shuttle and outside. Most of the rest of the crew had already moved out. Before he could say anything else, there were flashes from the village and the fighters went down. The crash and explosion was impossible to see from where they were but easily heard.

"Damn! I thought Sid said these people didn't have tech, they just shot down two fighters."

"Phasers on stun, but safety first, weapons free," Vanora said as she tossed phasers to everyone. "Be prepared for some villagers to blame us for this; assume all approaching are potential hostiles. Sadie, set up a perimeter and post a watch on top of the shuttle. Everyone stay close."

Sadie had her phaser out already, she took a deep breath, "These people are fighting for their freedom, shouldn't we help?" she called down from the top of the shuttle. She touched the tablet that was tied in to the shuttle to check the perimeter senors, so far nothing. "At least help them make sure the bad guys can't come at them through the gate and destroy them all and us in the process!"

"The Prime Directive is clear..." Vanora began to recite, but she hadn't been able to get her conversation with Lysia out of her head. "We can't interfere with the internal affairs of a non-Federation culture. However, if it seems that a hostile force is about to do is harm, we are of course entitled to self-defense," she said suggestively, hoping Sadie could figure the rest out. "Like I said, you are in charge of setting up the perimeter. I leave it to your expertise... and discretion."

Sadie licked her lips, "The prime directive is bull shit sometimes." she muttered but the wheels in her head were turning. "Anna, You want to take watch up here? I'm going to go check the senors one more time." Sadie said.

Anna nodded, "Don't be long." the woman said, knowing some of the senors were out of sight from the shuttle.

Sadie slid down the edge of the shuttle and hit the ground, "I don't plan to be." she said before she went inside the shuttle, "Just going to grab my boots." she muttered though no one was really paying attention to her.

"You can do this, Lizzy," Vanora tried to reassure the counselor when she realized Lizzy was looking very frightened. "Point and shoot to where the target will be, not where it is, just like the practice range."

The group watched the perimeter, about two hours later Anna saw the alarm go off and she raised her gun and tracked it, until she saw it was Sid with someone else. She let out a sigh of relief.

Sidwell and M'Gann had ducked into the woods just as several armored APCs had rolled by, thankfully missing them, but only by a few seconds. At any rate, they'd rolled past into town and already the sound of weapon's fire and explosions could be heard. Now, at least, they were at his little shuttle with some other Starfleet personnel.

Khelev had been outside working on the subspace transceiver when the first explosion went off. He'd come around the shuttle just as Sid returned with a blond woman that was clearly from the village and yet seemed strangely familiar. "Please tell me this isn't your wife."

"Oh, no she aint my wife. The people here take that seriously and they'd outcast any girl that would want to spend time with ol' Sid here," He smirked at the blue one. "I think this is the darling girl you lost, save for the pregnant one you lost."

"She ran off," Khelev looked at Sid, clearly irritated at the man.

M'Gann's eyes widened when she saw Khelev. "You are alive," she breathed. She then pulled off the ring and placed it in her satchel before running to him and throwing her arms around him in a hug.

Khelev's antenna turned inward towards each other in surprise, he wrapped his arms around M'Gann and gave her a big bear like hug. "M'Gann! No wonder you looked so familiar! You ever get captured on me again, I'll kick your cute blue ass."

She chuckled. "You're funny. I swear I walked a marathon in the past 24 hours." She pulled away, tenderly touching the glorious cut on her forehead. She was also looking a tad pale. "Where's Lizzy? I need to talk to her."

"I think she and Gwen are inside, probably the best place for you too," Khelev said, she looked weary and after what they'd been through he had no doubt she needed rest.. "This fight is going to last a while and it's only going to get worse. We can't lose the shuttle though."

The blonde nodded in response and glanced at the shuttle. "So this is where you've all been hiding," she commented.

"I dont know if I'd call it hiding." Anna commented from the top of the shuttle. "Hey, did you two happen to see Sadie on your way through? She went to check the senors and I figure she should be getting back about now?"

M'Gann looked to Sid and shook her head. "I didn't." She paused then added, "who all's here?"

Anna let out a swear as she looked around, as she replied, "Every one but Ensign Prince, and it would seem Sadie too." She glared down at the group from her perch, "I bet she ran off to join the fighting..." she said with irritation. "That girl is going to get herself and maybe us killed, how the hell did she make it out of the academy?"

"I don't know, but it's going to be my personal mission to see her court marshaled if she did," Khelev shook his head, there was a small part of him that wanted to do exactly what Sadie did. He was a warrior and these people's cause was just but if they helped them here and now they'd be helping them for the rest of their lives and history showed that even arming a rebellion could backfire in the biggest way. "Ensign Prince won't be far behind her, if the girl is even alive."

Anna nodded gravely, they all had training on these situations, and those two were breaking the rules. "Although... the argument could be made that these are a warp capable race." she commented.

Now that they mentioned it, she did spot some heavily guarded mining tools that definitely wouldn't belong to a pre-warp civilization. "Then why are they still here? What's keeping them here, on this planet?"

"I'm not a lawyer, I'm not planning on arguing semantics. The law states that we are to not interfere in the natural development of a species. Helping a planet of slaves fight a revolution is interfering, warp capable or not," Khelev took a deep breath. "That being said I need to get back to work. I'm almost ready to bring the subspace transceiver online and contact Gladiator. Once I'm done with that, Anna and I will go after Sadie."

Mulling over what he said, she nodded. She seemed to be thinking something over before turning to Sid. "You've been here a while. How similar are trugrasa to the Earth strawberry?"

When Lizzy heard some voices, she stuck her head out of the shuttle and spotted M'Gann. Squealing, she raced over and wrapped her arms around the half-Bolian in a hug, "So glad to see you. They don't like blue people I think."

"No they don't," Khelev shook his head, before waving at them and heading around the shuttle to finish getting things back online so they could send a signal to the gladiator.
